St Mary’s The Virgin, Linton, in the Benefice of Ariconium

St Mary’s, Linton stands on an ancient site, distinguished by the oldest yew tree in England (4000 years, according to certain authorities), and may have a history connected with the Christian community at ancient Ariconium.  The spire of this grade 1 listed building shows proudly from a long way, for example when travelling East on the M50 just before the first exit.  The present building dates from the 12th Century and has been developed over the years, most notably during the energetic ministry of the Revd Edward Palin, great grandfather of Michael Palin. His contribution to the village was colossal.
